    • Excerpt: The documentary demonstrates that the meticulously prepared Truffaut went through Hitchcock’s movies with their director one by one, both demystifying Hitchcock and covering his own evolution in a comprehensive and logical manner. Jones spends much time discussing a few Hitchcock films, in particular “Vertigo,” “Notorious” and “Psycho,” but very much at the expense of others. While the lesser-known “The Wrong Man” does get some well-deserved attention, some of the films that don’t rate a mention are lamentable.

    • Excerpt: While it’s a pure delight to see well-respected modern auteurs talk about the impact the famed director’s book had on them, it’s a bit of a letdown that we never exactly get to the meat of Jones’ cinematic dish.

    • Excerpt: The film isn’t nearly as essential as its source material, but it serves as a nice starting point for unfamiliar viewers.

    • Excerpt: The mission of Hitchcock/Truffaut isn’t to elucidate all the nooks and crannies of Hitchcock’s artistry (though it often does this with great gusto), but rather to locate in his films the tendencies that resonate on elemental levels and stir disparate filmmakers to their own artistic soul-searching.
  • Pat Mullen @ Point of View
    • Excerpt: A treat for film buffs.
